PENSACOLA, FL (WWBT) -

A world-record shark almost got away - not from the fisherman, but from the eyes of the public - if not for a quick stop at the gas station.

According to the Pensacola News Journal, Earnie and Joey Polk caught the 11', 805 pound shortfin mako shark off a Gulf Coast beach, but did not want to reveal the location in fear of other fishermen swarming the area.

The two attempted to keep the shark hush-hush, but it's not easy hiding an 805 pound shark, especially if it's hanging out the back of your truck. A picture taken at a gas station by an eagle-eyed bystander was sent to the PNJ.
