Weather aware

Good morning from MSNewsNow's Brandon Artiles.

We're at 73 degrees right now, and state emergency management officials are urging folks to have their severe weather action plans ready. Jessica Bowman will join us live from MEMA headquarters in Pearl to show us how they are getting ready for this wave of possible flooding and tornadoes.

Meteorologist Julia Weiden has been tracking the storm and she'll let us know how long we need to be on alert and what areas are most vulnerable, as this system makes its way through Mississippi. Julia will break it down for us in her First Alert Forecast.

Meanwhile, severe weather has already left a trail of destruction in Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas. As many as 16 deaths have been confirmed in Arkansas as a result of the violent weather. We'll take you to Arkansas to give you an idea of how catastrophic the damage was, at the top of the hour.

All of that and much more is heading your way.

Please join us from 5 to 7, and your severe weather preparation coverage continues on FOX 40 from 7 to 9.

Have a great Monday and stay safe.
