Industry watchdog recognizes St. Mary's for a second consecutive time for its success in protecting patients from accidents, injuries and infections.
SAN FRANCISCO, May 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- St. Mary's Medical Center has received another "A" grade for hospital safety, the highest possible, in the latest Hospital Safety Score from the Leapfrog Group, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections.
The latest recognition, covering the Spring 2014 period, marks the second consecutive time St. Mary's has been awarded an "A" grade.
Leapfrog is a national, non-profit industry watchdog that focuses on measuring and publicly reporting hospital performance by assigning a letter grade of A through F, based on a hospital's overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. The score includes 28 safety measures to produce the single letter grade.
"I congratulate all of our doctors, nurses and caregivers on this award," said St. Mary's President and CEO Anna Cheung. "Providing top patient care in the safest environment is the highest priority for all of us at St. Mary's. On behalf of our entire staff, I'm proud that these efforts have been acknowledged."
Leapfrog's announcement adds to a growing list of recent accomplishments for St. Mary's Medical Center. In January, the hospital received the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence, ranking it among the top 5 percent of hospitals nationwide. Prior to that, St. Mary's was honored as being of the country's top 100 hospitals for orthopedic services, stroke care, gastrointestinal care and general surgery.
