PLAQUEMINE, LA (WAFB) -
An arrest has been made in the case where a man was found shot to death at a camp in Iberville Parish in what investigators describe as a "horrendous scene."
Sheriff Brett Stassi identified the victim as Kye Boudreaux, 26, of Plaquemine. He said Boudreaux's body was found at a camp off Grand River in Plaquemine on Wednesday. Detectives said Boudreaux was shot in the head.
Sheriff Stassi says 22-year-old Detrell Scott of Plaquemine was arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with first degree murder and armed robbery. He also says the two knew each other.
Stassi reported Boudreaux's empty boat was then found drifting in the bayou near Jack Miller Landing in Plaquemine by a tow boat around 5:30 a.m. It has been taken to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab to be examined for evidence.
Deputies said the motor was in neutral, so they initially thought they were investigating a possible drowning.
"We ran the numbers on the boat and it came up to Kye Boudreaux. So we started getting ready for a water search once daylight came," said Sheriff Stassi.
Stassi says he has known Boudreaux all his life, along with his parents. "You're not supposed to bury your children. They supposed to bury you. This just hits close too home," said Stassi.
Just as deputies were getting ready to get in the water, a deputy found Boudreaux's truck and trailer in a sugar cane field off Tenant Road in Plaquemine around 7:30 a.m. Sheriff Stassi says someone tried to burn it, but was not successful.
While investigators were on the scene where the truck was found, the Sheriff got a chilling call from Boudreaux's parents, saying to come to their family camp in Grand River because they had just found their son shot to death.
Sheriff Stassi said it was a "horrendous scene."
Margaret Businelle is a family friend of the Boudreaux family and says Kye had just gotten his life on track. His parents were proud that he just got a job at DOW Chemical. She says Kye loved the outdoors, fishing and his family camp.
Now his loved ones are left consoling each other as they try to come to terms with this heartache.
Family and friends waited at the landing all day Wednesday. Two Sheriff's boats arrived back at the Jack Miller Landing with bags and boxes full of evidence. One by one, each was placed in the State Police vehicle and were taken to the crime lab for analysis.
