LAUREL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Monday, Jones County Deputies were sent to the area of Pecan Grove Road and Ira G. Odom Road in reference to a one vehicle accident.

Upon arrival Lt. Chris Cline made contact with the owner of the vehicle.

The owner stated he was visiting the home of friends when their mother, Melinda Crays, began to act irrational and attempted to assault them.

He and the daughters began walking away from the home to get away from Melinda Crays, when she other got into his truck and "tried to run over her daughters with it."

The owner of the truck says he jumped in the driver's side window of the truck and gained control of the vehicle.

He was then able to force the vehicle off the road before crashing into a tree on Ira G. Odom-Pecan Grove Road Intersection.

Melinda Crays reportedly ran away from the scene, and back to her home.

Authorities found her there.

They say she was intoxicated, with injuries to her face and head consistent with hitting a steering wheel.

She was taken to a local hospital where she received medical attention before being released.

The teenage daughters of Crays admitted their mother assaulted them when they got home from school.

Both teens admitted they left the scene because they feared for their safety.

The teens were picked up by their grandmother and both are safe.

Melinda Crays is facing two charges of Felony Domestic Violence/Aggravated Assault.

Jones County Justice Court Judge set bond her at $20,000.00.
