JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Justin Griffin's family and friends gathered on the steps of the Hinds County courthouse in his honor Saturday afternoon.

The 25 year-old basketball coach died Monday after he was involved in a fight with an off duty Hinds County Deputy.

Surrounded by family and friends, Justin's mom Cynthia Griffin stood strong during a rally called "Justice for Justin."

Last Sunday Cynthia Griffin wished someone had been there to shield her son.

"When they saw my child down on the ground not breathing how could somebody not give him CPR, how could somebody not call 911?," Justin's mother asked.

Griffin died a day after he got into a fist fight with Josh Adams, an off duty Hinds County Deputy, who was working at a basketball game at the Mississippi Basketball and Athletics facility.

Othor Cain with the Hinds County Sheriff's Office said he didn't witness Sunday's fight, so he doesn't know if anybody tried to immediately help Justin.

"The truth will prevail no matter how dark the situation is, no matter how high emotions are running. The justice system will prevail," Cain said.

Justin's supporters won't let his death be in vain.

They hope the 25-year-old's death brings awareness to senseless violence.

"If you know something you gotta tell it, if you have information you have to tell it," said Mayor Tony Yarber.

"This rally won't end the violence and disorder, but it will bring attention to the problem," added James Griffin, Justin's father.

Julian Pickett was by Justin's side during the fight.

Pickett said Justin was not the aggressor and has additional evidence to prove that.

"I have audio and when they're ready to release it, it will be released," Pickett said

Mrs. Griffin is preparing for her first Mother's Day without Justin.

Despite her grief, you might be surprised by her feelings towards Josh Adams.

"The young man that did this to my child, I want him to know without a shadow of a doubt, I do not hold any anger in my heart against him," added Cynthia Griffin.

Justin's funeral is 11 a.m. Monday at Word of Life Church.
