Jackson Mayor Tony Yarber is taking a new approach to handling the safety of residents in the capital city. He's named former city councilman Marshand Crisler as Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Public Safety.
Crisler will now work with the Police, Fire and Emergency Management Departments. Lindsey Horton will remain as Jackson Police Chief, but Mayor Yarber says the strategy for fighting crime will change under his administration.
"We want you to know that our commitment is very, very pronounced," said Mayor Yarber. "That we are serious about fighting crime, we are serious about having a Police Department that looks to equality."
R. D. Simpson the former spokesperson for the Jackson Fire Department was named interim Fire Chief.
