RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

It was a day to put bragging rights to the test as racers took to the water Saturday on the Rez.

Teams from across the state gave oars a workout during the Dragon Boat Regatta at Old Trace Park on the Reservoir.

Racers used synchronized strokes to the out paddle competitors in hopes of taking home the title.

State troopers are also among the teams fighting to finish first on the waters. The MHP Road Dogs won in 2012 and say the race builds comradery.

"We started this a couple of years ago. we have a good administration with major that supported all types of events like this get us out in the public eye and have us participate in things that are fun, community events like this," said MHP Road Dogs member Lori Smith.

This is the sixth year the Madison County Chamber has hosted the event. A portion of this year's proceeds benefit MadCAAP, Madison Counties Allied Against Poverty.
