Metro area welcomes Southern Airways to Madison airport

MADISON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Starting next week you can hop a flight from the City of Madison's airport to Destin, Florida.

Officials with Southern Airways will make the announcement during a ribbon cutting ceremony this afternoon.

The flights between Madison and Destin take off next Thursday, May 29th. The flights on the nine passenger Cessna plane will be offered four days per week.

Airline officials say when you fly with Southern Airways you'll receive a private jet experience on a public chartered flight.

"You book a ticket just the way you would with a legacy carrier you just don't have to show up and go through all of the hassles that you would at an international airport like TSA and paying for parking and paying for bags," says Southern Airways COO Keith Sisson. "When you buy a ticket with us we're done taking your money we're just going to give you a nice flight and get you where you want to be."

As Southern Airways moves into the Metro area, Southwest Airlines is leaving the Jackson Evers International Airport.

The last flights are set for June 7th.
