JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Police are searching for a gunman after a deadly shooting in south Jackson.  A maroon Ford F-250 pick-up crashed into a utility pole in front of a home in the 23-hundred block of Breckinridge Road.  Investigators say the unidentified man inside that vehicle was running for his life.

"The suspect in the white pickup truck was chasing the victim who was in a burgundy F-250," said Officer Colendula Green. "The suspect in the white truck exited his vehicle and fired shots into this F-250 and fled the scene."

"Upon arrival, we found one black male suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the neck," said Assistant Jackson Police Chief Lee Vance. "He was inside a Ford F-250 pickup truck.   Emergency crews from AMR and the Jackson Fire Department arrived shortly and tried to treat him. They were unsuccessful in resuscitating him."

Vance says the job now is finding those responsible and getting them in custody. The identity of the victim is not being released until family members have been notified.
