Jackson group and residents march against recent violence

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Last week Jackson police investigated nine murders in the city and a group has formed to take a stand against the violence.

Sunday members from New Horizon Church and other people from the community took part in a march to end violence.

They marched from New Horizon up Raymond Road to Wingfield High School, then took part in prayer.

Jackson Police are working three murder cases from last week, including the shooting death of a three-year-old boy.

"We care about this city and we're taking it back by control we're taking it because The Lord has given us authority over this community. We don't want to see anymore killings we want to see children live," said organizer Demario Simmons.

Organizers said they plan to have more events like these in the future with hopes of some change.
