HAZLEHURST, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Hazlehurst police now say that the suspect who sparked a Monday night manhunt was not armed and did not point a weapon at officers.

Brandon Gillmore, wanted for capital murder in Sharkey County, is now in custody.

Police recognized Gillmore at Raja Food Mart from an arrest warrant out of Sharkey County.

"Once the officers were on scene Mr. Gillmore took off running" said Swilley. On Monday night he continued with this, "He pointed a weapon at one of my officers and my officer discharged his firearm twice."

It now looks like, according to new information, the suspect did not point a weapon at officers.

The search for Gillmore spanned miles throughout wooded areas of Hazlehurst, with the Copiah County Sheriff's Department and the Mississippi Highway Patrol assisting.

"When the subject first went into the woods, an officer was behind him and this area is a very thick wooded area," said Chief Swilley. "And with help from the community we was continuing to get updates on the whereabouts of this subject."

Gillmore was taken into custody about an hour later.

His wife is also in custody. She was with him in the vehicle.
