RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Hundreds lined up today at Northpark Mall in Ridgeland for the grand opening of H&M.

H&M is known around the world for selling trend setting, fashion forward clothing for women, men and children at affordable prices.

There's even a maternity line and a plus size line.

The energetic staff kept the crowds of shoppers entertained by dancing and giving out prizes. Some shoppers had been waiting in line since around 4:30 this morning.

Ridgeland Mayor Gene McGee, Ridgeland Chamber of Commerce and Northpark Mall officials gathered with staff members for the ribbon cutting, which took place at noon.

Some of the H&M staff members commented that they were surprised at just how many people showed up for the grand opening.

The Ridgeland store is 24,000 square feet with two floors of clothing and accessories.

Ridgeland Mayor Gene McGee told us H&M's arrival is a game changer locally and regionally and believes the store will help boost the city's sales tax.

"It's a tremendous, tremendous announcement we're excited about that obviously its one of those stores that will continue to make Northpark Mall strong and be good for the economy, region and state."

The first 300 shoppers in line received goodie bags with a T-shirt and access to a fashion pass valued anywhere from $10 to $300.

"When H&M comes in basically because of the fact that they have such a great product and great following as a result of their product and their store a lot of other retailers also like to be in the same environment," said Northpark Mall's General Manager, Michael Husser.

Also, H&M has a global recycling program. Customers are encouraged to donate unwanted clothing and receive a voucher for 15% off their next purchase for each bag.
