Southern Pines off to good start in ASPCA Challenge
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -
Six days into the Rachael Ray ASPCA 100 K Challenge the Southern Pines Animal Shelter is off to a good start toward achieving their goal of adopting out 1500 animals in the next three months.
Since the contest got underway they have had approximately 100-animals go to their new homes. Today they held another adoption event, this time at C-Spire on Highway 98 in Hattiesburg. Their next big event will be next week when they send about 100 dogs to Florida on a transport to be adopted.
With a transport this big they will need plenty of help from the community to pull it off.
"Because it's such a large transport we're going to have a lot of animals that are going to be heading out into foster while they wait for this transport to leave," said Ginny Sims SPAS manager. "We provide fosters with everything they need and we're always looking for fosters. It's also left us with a need for carriers and crates, as well as towels and blankets."
The shelter also needs volunteers Tuesday to help bathe the dogs leaving on the transport.
