COLLINS, MS (WDAM) -

The Collins Fire Department recently took possession of a new fire engine to add to an already impressive fleet.

The engine is a 2015 Spartan model cab and chassis with a Deep South custom built body. The engine is designed to be a rescue pumper capable of producing 2000-gallons of water a minute and can also carry 1000-gallons of water. It will also carry a full compliment of firefighting and rescue tools.

Despite its small size the Collins Fire Department is known around the state as being one of the best equipped and is often called in to assist other agencies.

"We are called upon to help on large industrial fires and flammable liquid incidents," said John Pope, Collins Fire Chief. "Most recently New Augusta and Perry County for the train derailment. For the Collins Fire Department to be called upon to assist those outside agencies we're glad to provide those services and glad that we have the training, experience, equipment, and expertise to be able to render aid whenever our assistance is needed."

Chief Pope was recently elected to his second term as President of the Mississippi Firefighters Association.
