The Hispanic First Baptist on Madison Street in Athens was damaged.
LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
Monday's storm damaged multiple areas of the Tennessee Valley overnight, and in one county, emergency management officials have requested a damage survey by the National Weather Service..
Colbert County suffered some damage as well with down trees and power lines. County EMA officials want the NWS to survey damage in the Leighton area.
EMA Director Mike Melton said the storm cut a path from Clements Road to County Line Road. Crews have been working through Tuesday to repair power and clear roads in the area.
"There is actually a track for probably about three miles," said Melton. "Some of this is very small trees; a light barn."
Officials said that no injuries were reported in the storm. For one man whose home narrowly missed being crushed by several falling trees, he is glad he and his wife were not hurt.
The 90-year-old said he hand-picked the trees and planted them over 60 years ago. He said it was a higher power that helped protect him and his wife.
"We're real fortunate it missed the house," said Logan. "If it would have come straight across the house it would have just split it in half. Somebody said the Lord just pushed it away from the house."
NWS officials could be in Colbert County surveying damage as early as Wednesday.
Elsewhere, a bus barn in Lauderdale County was damaged by the weather.
The Lauderdale County EMA said the Board of Education Bus Barn was damaged. They said diesel pumps were hit and spilled fuel. Winds peeled back the roof of the barn.
In addition to debris from buildings, Florence city crews were dispatched throughout the night working to restore power and clear the road of fallen limbs and trees. At least one car was reported smashed from a tree limb on Walnut Street.
The Franklin County EMA reported that they have some trees down. They also have some power outages and pea-sized hail.
Lawrence County EMA reported several trees down, some scattered power outages in the Hatton area.
The City of Athens reported a transformer on fire on Sanders Street, a tree blocked Elkton street off Elm Street until about 10:30 p.m. Monday, a tree blocking Irvin Street, and a tree hanging over 5th Avenue by 5th Avenue Apartments. A steeple was damaged at Hispanic First Baptist on Madison Street.
The City of Huntsville saw multiple power outages, some down trees, and Huntsville Police reported a tree on a house on Fairbanks Street Monday night.
