JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Millions of dollars are expected to pour into the City of Jackson thanks to the International Ballet Competition.

The competition starts this Saturday evening at Thalia Mara Hall. The globally recognized event attracts thousands of visitors to the metro area.

In fact, the last time the International Ballet Competition was in Jackson back in 2010...more than 34,000 people attended. That large crowd contributed to the $10.2 million added to Jackson's economy and the surrounding area.

"The opportunity to have dancers from all over the world to come into Jackson, Mississippi, just imagine that Jackson is on their radar that they have to get to Jackson to as an opportunity to launch their careers. So they bring in the dancers, the coaches, jury and different delegations from all over the world and so you think about the impact it has on hotels, on restaurants, even our attractions, just the general population in the city of Jackson," said Yolanda Moore of the Jackson Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The competition runs from June 14th to June 29th. For more information on ticket sales go to
