Forrest County is in a state of remembrance after the death of its Post One Constable.
Wayne Taylor, who served as constable since the early 2000s, passed away Thursday.
County flags will fly at half mast throughout the weekend in memory of his service.
"We're proud of the service he gave to the citizens, and we felt that would be appropriate in his memory and honor," said Forrest County Board of Supervisors President David Hogan.
Hogan said the board will decide on an interim constable next week until a special election in November.
Taylor began working with the Forrest County Sheriff's Department after graduating from The University of Southern Mississippi in 1977. Hogan said Taylor was a very influential person who genuinely respected his job and the people he served.
"Wayne was the epitome of professionalism. He took his job seriously. He tried very hard to do a good job. He did do a good job, and I learned a lot from him. He was always real helpful. He always took people real seriously, took his job seriously and tried to help people, and I respected him a lot for that," said Hogan.
According to Hogan, a 30-day qualifying deadline will be set for candidates, running from the first week in August to the first week in September.
