JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith announced yesterday that 39-year-old Patrick Jones plead guilty to manslaughter and convicted felon in possession of firearm before Honorable Judge William Gowan.

According to Smith, in July 2012, Jones shot Leonard Stone 6 times in front of Jones' Dorgan street home.

We are told that Jones was identified from non-suggestive photo lineups by numerous witnesses and did not act in self-defense, as Leonard Stone was unarmed.

Circuit Judge William Gowan sentenced Jones to 30 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

"I'm very proud of my prosecutors for being able to secure a conviction in this senseless act", stated Smith. "Given Jones' maximum sentence it will ensure that Jones will not be able to roam the streets of Jackson for a very long time".
