BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The bodies of Jaidon Hill, his mother Atira Hughes-Smith and her husband were found in an abandoned home seven months ago.

What's gotten them through all this time?

One relative says faith; both in God and in the justice system.

More than a hundred people, friends and relatives, came out on Friday evening to celebrate Jaidon Hill.

The 7-year-old's life ended last November, along with his mother Atira Hughes Smith and stepfather Laterry Smith.

They were found shot to death in an abandoned home in Copiah County.

Jaidon would have been 8 years old on Friday.

Cousin Angela Ashford says those seven months have been tough, but faith has gotten them through.

"It's beautiful to see our family and our community come together seven months later. It's just beautiful to see the love and support that has been shown to our family."

The two men charged in the triple homicide, Cedric Mason and Timothy Burns, have not been tried.

Mason is charged with two counts of murder and arson. Burns is charged with capital murder.

"There's frustration in the natural, sure it is. Because this is our family," said Ashford. "This is senseless. Senseless killings. But we know that there's protocols that have to take place. And we don't want anyone to slip through any loopholes."

Authorities have been tight-lipped about the investigation since it began, offering little new information.

Ashford says the family wants a trial and sentences to come down.

"Why Jaidon? Why Atira? Why did this take place? They were innocent. They were truly innocent."

But this Friday evening, she just wants to celebrate her cousin's life.

"This is the unimaginable. Nobody should have to go through this, ever. And it's senseless. But today is Jaidon's day. Today is about Jaidon. And I just want to say Happy Birthday, Jaidon."
