Local girl named finalist in national scholarship competition

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

On Saturday, June 28, a Jackson girl was selected as a finalist in the Distinguished Young Women Finals competition.

Peryn Reeves-Darby was named one of 10 finalists and was awarded a $3,500 cash scholarship.

Reeves-Darby also earned a $1,000 preliminary competition award in the interview category as well as the $2,000 Wintzell's Oyster House My Town Award in memory of Betty Copeland. 

She traveled to Mobile to represent Mississippi along with 49 other state representatives to participate in community activities and prepare for the 57th annual national competition.

Reeves-Darby is a graduate of St. Andrews Episcopal School.

More than $150,000 in cash scholarship was awarded during the three-day competition.
