The inmate who escaped from the South Mississippi Correctional Institution Tuesday has been captured. He was taken into custody without incident around 6 p.m. Wednesday near the Greene County Prison.

Thirty-five year old Matthew Chester Tucker has been returned to the prison and will face an escape charge.

"Our officers worked tirelessly with the help of citizens until this offender was back in custody," said Commissioner Chris Epps. "We are thankful that we were able to capture him in slightly more than 24 hours since he went missing."

Tucker was on a work detail on the blueberry farm at the prison Tuesday when officials realized he was missing. He is serving a 10-year sentence for a conviction of kidnapping of a minor from Coahoma County.
