Walking for Wounded Warriors

PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Two Brandon High School students are demonstrating their patriotism this 4th of July week.

Hayden Gibbons and Ty Lovell, both age 16, are in the JROTC program. On Thursday morning they walked from Brandon to the Mississippi Outlets in Pearl to raise awareness and money for the Wounded Warrior Project. The project provides services to meet the needs of injured service members.

We caught up with them as they took a break at the outlet mall, and had lunch with the Mayors of Brandon and Pearl.

"It's an organization that provides wounded warriors with things like prosthetics, or events," Cadet Sergeant Lovell says.

"To bring awareness to them, to show everyone in our community, you may not see many of them but they're still here, still need help," says Cadet 1st Lieutenant Gibbons.

Lovell and Gibbons have raised about $1,400 for the Wounded Warrior Project.
