JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Police say two men were shot, early Thursday morning, by the man they were trying to rob.

Three armed men apparently broke into a home on Myrtlewood drive shortly before 2am.

They were somehow able to get the homeowners gun, but he was able to get it back an open fire on the suspects.

One suspect was shot in the head, he was taken to the hospital when police arrived on the scene.

We're told he suffered life-threatening injuries.

Another man, who was shot in the chest, managed to make it across the street.

He was found around 6am, Thursday morning, by some neighbors.

They told our reporter on the scene and she called police to report the suspect.

He was taken to the hospital and is now listed in critical condition.

The third man escaped in homeowner's vehicle.

It was found abandoned, nearby, on Belvedere street. Police are still searching for him.

Police say these shootings will most likely fall under the Castle Doctrine, meaning the homeowner will not face any charges in the shootings.
