CLAIBORNE COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The hunt is on for an arsonist who set fire to a deer camp in Claiborne county. A camera used to monitor deer and hog movement captured the late night crime. Now investigators hope you can identify the man.

Claiborne County Sheriff's investigators continue to review surveillance video that shows an arsonist at work sometime before 11:30 on the night of June 13th.

The RV and adjacent home went up in flames after a man tossed something flammable into a container at the front of the vehicle.

It is located off Highway 552 a tenth of a mile from the Alcorn State University's campus. Nothing remains of the house converted into a deer camp, a gathering spot for the Watts family during hunting season.

"This one stands out because approximately 10 days before the fire, this RV was burglarized, and two weeks later it turns out it was actually burned," said Chief Deputy Carl Fleming with the Claiborne County Sheriff's Department.

"I was actually surprised when I walked up the hill," said property owner Shambani Watts. "I was completely blown away to see the RV gone as well as my family's home."

The 45 year old was shocked to find the deer camp and more than 100 year old house destroyed, four days after the fire.

The Jackson business owner returned to the property to check hog traps when he discovered the ruins, a devastating loss for his family.

"My daughter just, I actually lost her mother a couple of years ago but she's six years old now, and she loves the place," said Watts. "She really loved the deer camp the RV and so those memories will be there."

Investigators believe the culprit may have burned his right hand when setting the fire.

"It was amazing that a camera we use to catch wildlife and hopefully catch the big buck actually caught this guy," added Watts.

The State Fire Marshal's Office is offering up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case.
