COMO, MS -

(WMC) - New ordinances in Como, Mississippi will hopefully keep what happened to Yancey Allison from ever happening again.

Allison and her 15-year-old dog, Huggie, are recovering after another dog attacked them.

"I went to pick up little Huggs, and as I was down, A.J. [her neighbor's dog] came from behind," Allison said. "He bit me three times on the rear, and then he came around and went for my throat but got inside my throat."

Thankfully a neighbor was able to scare the attacking dog away. Allison went to the ER to have doctors treat her injuries.

"Had flesh been hanging off my chin, it wouldn't have surprised me," she said.

After two separate dog attacks this summer, Como leaders are taking steps to keep everyone safe. They've put some new rules into effect.

Now, pets cannot roam free without a leash, vicious dog owners must have $100,000 in liability insurance, and police can pick up violent animals.

Allison hates that it took two attacks to force the changes, but she looks forward to walking Huggie on the street again without being afraid.

"Since that happened, I haven't even walked Huggie. I haven't really wanted to go for a walk, and the town's lovely."
