Successful Session was Hosted by Graduate Student Grant Palermo
NEW YORK, July 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The second session of the Speakers' Series at NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate was a success, featuring an engaging and intimate discussion with Christopher Schlank, a Founder and Managing Partner of Savanna. The event, hosted by graduate student Grant Palermo, took place on July 14th.
Each session of the series brings notable real estate professionals to NYU's campus to share anecdotes, personal stories, perspectives on real estate investing and other relevant industry trends to a diverse student audience.
"From the start, Christopher captured the attention of NYU Schack students with his vibrant personality and his experiences in real estate development and construction," said Palermo. "He provided us with valuable insight on the industry and how he attained success in such a competitive market."
At Savanna, Schlank sits on the Investment Committee and is in charge of construction and redevelopment and shares responsibilities for asset management, sales and marketing and acquisitions. He has overseen the acquisition and redevelopment of over 65 real estate assets, comprising over 19 million square feet of space and $3.2 billion of total capitalization, including raw land development sites, apartments, office buildings, industrial to residential conversions, retail and warehouse/distribution properties.
Prior to founding Savanna, Schlank was a project manager for the Westside Federation for Senior Housing, a New York-based developer of low-income housing. He received an M.S. in Real Estate Development from the Columbia School of Architecture and a B.A. in Urban Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. Schlank is an Assistant Adjunct Professor at Columbia University where he teaches a seminar in Real Estate Finance to graduate students in the Columbia Architecture School's Real Estate Master's Degree Program.
The NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate at the NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies is home to graduate degree and related graduate certificate programs-notably the M.S. in Real Estate, the M.S. in Construction Management, and the M.S. in Real Estate Development-which enroll almost 800 full- and part-time students from more than 30 countries and have over 2,500 alumni degree-holders around the globe.
