Sen. Wicker votes against bill to reverse Hobby Lobby ruling

WASHINGTON, D. C (Mississippi News Now) -

U.S. Senator Roger Wicker has voted against a bill to reverse the recent Supreme Court ruling that allows employers to opt out of providing emergency contraceptives to their employees.

The Democrat-sponsored bill comes after the Supreme Court ruled that closely held companies, such as Hobby Lobby, do not have to follow the emergency contraceptive mandate.

The Supreme Court ruled that the mandate infringed upon the rights given under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA).

Conestoga Wood Specialties, a family-owned company, also challenged the mandate violated their religious beliefs.

Senator Wicker is a cosponsor of the "Preserving Religious Freedom and a Woman's Access to Contraception Act." A bill that is also Senators Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., Deb Fischer, R-Neb., and Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.,
