HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Following multiple house burglaries in rural areas of Madison and Hinds counties, some residents are stepping up their game plan. It includes organizing community watch efforts and looking out for each other.

Hinds County Deputies gathered at a home on North Davis Road. The homeowner gathered neighbors and intends to start a neighborhood watch program.

They want to reclaim their peace of mind in this rural area where neighbors often live miles apart. Rebecca Chaney organized the group.

"Here are the faces that they need to see," said Chaney. "We want to have peace of mind. Raising our children out here and we know that working with the Sheriff's department is the way to go."

Suspects have been taken into custody. Most recently Jackson police busted a burglary ring operating out in the county and recovered guns and other expensive items stolen during the daylight burglaries.

Deputies say some of the stolen goods were sold on the streets.
