BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -  A Bossier City family found an unpleasant surprise waiting for them as they went to open their garage door Wednesday morning: a 5-foot-long chicken snake.

They found the snake at their Sligo Road home around 6:30 a.m. That's when they called Anti-Pest in Shreveport.

"I said, 'Paula, do you want to go wrangle a snake?' And she said 'I'm game,'" said supervisor Sandra Stevens as she remembered when she first received the call.

Stevens and technician Paula Kimble removed the reptile using a glue trap. The homeowner's son had some tires delivered from Florida Tuesday that were placed in the garage. They believe the snake caught a ride to Bossier City in one of them.

They first thought the snake was a python because of its similar markings.

This wasn't Stevens' first rodeo. She has been removing unwanted pests for 14 years after being a stay-at-home mom.

"I was just looking for a job that didn't involve computers," she said.

Stevens said the snake was pretty injured from its body being pinched by the motor rails, so they had to kill it. Working in what some would consider a male-dominated profession, she says there are more female technicians than males at her location.

"It was fun. I'd do it again," she added.
