Vicksburg native Drew Smith returns from deployment overseas

VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Drew Smith, civil engineer with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, has returned from deployment to Afghanistan.

Smith, a Vicksburg native, was working in support of the Overseas Contingency Operations.

He was a project engineer for several different projects for the Afghan National Army and National Police.

He was also a project engineer for a special forces compound construction for the United States military near Camp Marmal in Mazar-e-Sharif.

Smith has received several awards for his service including the NATO Medal and Secretary of Defense Medal for the Global War on Terrorism.

The Vicksburg District has deployed over 180 civilians to Iraq and Afghanistan since 2002.
