JULIA'S FORECAST: Hot and humid with chance storms

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Technically our high temperatures today won't be as hot as the seasonal average. We'll top out in the upper 80s to near 90°, which is a few degrees shy of the "normal" for this time of year (92°). That said, it's still going to feel very warm outside given the ramped up humidity! Take your heat safety precautions today: keep cool inside in the AC and drink plenty of water.

As we head into the afternoon hours we'll start to increase our chances for rain and thunder. Storms will be isolated to scattered, so not everyone will get wet. By Thursday afternoon, a cold front will approach from the north. It will never quite drop through the state, so we won't see much in the way of heat relief, but we will see afternoon storms again Thursday afternoon.

From there, the threat for rain and storms lessens for the weekend. A pop up shower or storm isn't entirely ruled out, but we'll mostly be coping with the warmth in the low 90s and sunshine.
