Dialysis patients and their families took their minds off treatments and enjoyed an afternoon picnic.
Saturday the Mississippi Kidney Foundation held its annual summer gathering at the Mississippi Ag Museum.
More than 500 dialysis patients and their families attended the event. The afternoon was filled with endless ice cream, music and fun.
This is the 15th year the Kidney Foundation picnic has been held. Officials say Mississippi has one of the highest rates of kidney disease in the country.
"It's just a fun time for the patients to come out. If you're on dialysis you're hooked up to a machine three times a week for four hours a day, and this is just a fun time. The families get together and get to be with other kidney patients," said MS Kidney Foundation Executive Director Gail Sweat.
The Mississippi Kidney Foundation is also selling T-shirts statewide trying to raise $50,000.00 for the organization.
