JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
According to the Mississippi Business Journal, Allegiant Air would give Jackson two direct flights a day to Orlando under an agreement approved Monday by the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority and contingent on a U.S. Department of Transportation grant subsidy.
The flights offered by the airline would land at Orlando/Sanford International, which is a small airport in Sanford.
Sanford is located just 15 miles outside of Orlando.
Jackson Medgar Wiley Evers International lost direct service to Orlando when Southwest Airlines left in June.
According to the Mississippi Business Journal, the duration of the service will be dependent upon frequency of passenger travel to and from Jackson.
