Evacuation mandated after upsurge in Ebola cases

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

WLBT has confirmed the Christian aid groups, Samaritan's Purse and SIM, are mandating an evacuation of all non-essential personnel from Liberia. That's due to a surge in Ebola cases in Liberia and other nations in West Africa.

According to a news release and confirmed to WLBT by Samaritan's Purse, the timing, means and place of evacuation are being decided now. The action comes on the heels of two American aid workers contracting Ebola.

Dr. Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol are reported as stable, but suffering symptoms of the virus.

A news release on SIM.Org reports no symptoms of Ebola have been detected in any of the evacuees, and they are being monitored continually. The release states "SIM and Samaritan's Purse work under the strictest of safety protocols as established by the Centers for Disease Control and other world health organizations."
