JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

It is the time of year any seasoned scholar has learned brings on excitement and fear. The beginning of school.

But the Office Depot Foundation helped alleviate some of that anxiety for about 2000 Jackson area students, and maybe more accurately, alleviated some of the back to school shopping anxiety from their parents, by passing out sackpacks filled with school supplies.

Tim Green, the area manager for Office Depot says,

"For me personally, it's just the satisfaction of seeing all the smiling kids faces," said Office Depot area manager Tim Green. "This kind of puts them on a level playing field so they go back with the supplies that they need."

These sacpacks are valued at, I don't know, 10 to 15 dollars, apiece, maybe.

"The smile on the kids faces are worth a lot more than that," said J. R. White, the local Office Depot manager.

And where as 10 or 15 dollars may not sound like a lot, in our economy there are way more homes than you'd realize where that amount per child, one way or the other, makes a great deal of difference on how this month is going to turn out for their family budget.

Jason Scarborough of the Salvation Army appreciates the help for his organization.

"I mean just everything, the price of everything has gone up," said Scarborough. "And school supplies is no different. So if you're talking about a family where two children, three children, extra five, ten, twenty,  thirty dollars can make a huge difference. So to be able to kinda ease that strain a little bit for these parents and these children, means a lot to us and I know it means a lot to these children."

The book of Proverbs says you can't plow a field without an ox; meaning you have to have the necessary equipment before you can expect to do anything successfully.

Well, you can't take on a school year without notebooks, paper, pencils and a sack to carry them all. Office Depot just Made That Difference for 2000 students in our area.
