CANTON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Canton Police are looking for the person who attacked a man outside his home earlier this week, leaving him hospitalized.

Police say he was severely beaten in the driveway of his Canton home just after 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, on Avondale road.

"He was at his residence according to his wife," said investigator Terrance Ware. "He had just left outside to get the newspaper that morning which was probably a routine of his. Apparently someone was waiting on him. He was brutally attacked. At this time we believe he was robbed."

The attack took place just a few blocks from the Canton Country Club, where police say crime is typically low.

Hall was hit in the head with a blunt object according to police. Neighbors we talked to say they didn't see or hear the attack.

Hall who is in his 70's remains hospitalized. Police say his wife was home at the time, but was unhurt.

"Wednesday morning he was in critical condition," said Ware. "We're kind if waiting to hear from him to see if he knows, or has any idea of what happened or who attacked him."

Anyone with information on this brutal attack is asked to call Canton police at 601-859-2121.
