JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The "A" team of Mississippi lawmakers was front and center at the capitol Tuesday. The senators and representatives are considered champions for legislation which supported and helped create economic development growth.

They are recognized by the Business and Industry Political Education Committee.

"Having the BIPEC report card helps our industries, as well as others, identify those legislators that understand the importance of healthy business environments that translate into a stronger economy for all citizens of Mississippi," said MS Trucking Association President Hal Miller.

BIPEC graded each lawmaker. Eight members of the House of Representatives received "F" grades for failing to support business.

"Not everybody shares our views on what the roadmap for prosperity in Mississippi is," said House Speaker Philip Gunn. "We believe good jobs, good paying jobs, are the roadmaps for success in Mississippi and we need to pass legislation that creates that kind of environment."

The Business  and Industry Political Education Committee represents more than 30 trade and professional associations.
