A horrific train collision happened this weekend in Lawrence County. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the people who died and the people of Hoxie.
Within minutes of the 911 calls, police, fire, and medical first responders across Region 8 were on scene. For many of them, it didn't matter to them that they didn't live in Lawrence County and that it was 3 a.m. What mattered to them is their calling.
Emergency responders are trained to run directly into danger, not from it. And in this case they did it together.
The emergency responders worked together going door-to-door in the early morning hours, getting families out of bed and getting them evacuated to safety. They pulled the survivors from the wreckage, closed off roads and kept people safe.
For some of those brave men and women, it was their community. For others it wasn’t. It didn’t matter because they worked together and backed each other up.
We want to say thank you for going above and beyond and responding to keep us all safe. The fact that when bad things happen anywhere in Region 8, we know that these heroes work together should give us a peace of mind and make this A Better Region 8.
