HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

In past years, the Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport has offered flights to Memphis, New Orleans and Atlanta, but never out west and never with American Airlines.

Well, that's about to change in the fall.

Beginning Nov. 6, American Eagle will begin providing air service to the Pine Belt, offering two flights a day, Monday-Friday, and one flight Saturday and Sunday to Dallas-Ft. Worth.

Hattiesburg-Laurel's current air carrier, Silver Airways, will continue to provide service through Nov. 5.

Tom Heanue, director of the Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport, said you can begin booking flights on American Eagle now. He said the fares are competitive.

"We're right at par with Jackson, that's where they're pricing us," said Heanue. "Going to Chicago, going to LaGuardia, going to D.C., going to LAX, we're right on par, and when you don't pay (for) your parking here and you don't have to get up so early to drive and when you come home, your car is here, it makes us pretty competitive for folks to look at us," he said.

To make reservations, go online to www.aa.com and use the code "PIB."
