Adams County Deputies get new pepper spray guns

ADAMS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Adams County Sheriff's Deputies are now armed with state-of-the-art Jet Protector pepper spray guns. The newly acquired guns have a patented propulsion system which launches a high grade Oleoresin Capsicum pepper resin solution at a speed of 450 mph.

"Officers are trained to hit the target in the chest or the back of the shoulders or neck from 5 to 25 feet away," said Sheriff Chuck Mayfield. "The strong pepper solution will immobilize the suspect by effecting their eyes, sinuses and skin, without any harmful after effects."

The technology of "shooting" vs "spraying" the liquid OC irritant not only improves accuracy but also significantly reduces the risk of generating aerosols small enough to enter into the respiratory system, which can be harmful for asthmatics.

"The guns have a laser site which gives accuracy to the officer and can be a warning to the suspect," added Sheriff Mayfield. "In our jail, we have only fired the pepper spray a few times. The laser is usually enough to subdue an inmate."
