COPIAH COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Jackson Prep football team is hitting the field tonight (Saturday) for their first game without their teammate Walker Wilbanks.

Despite the dreary weather hundreds of folks were out at the Jackson Prep/Copiah Academy football game in Gallman.

The game just started at 6 p.m.

It was originally scheduled for Friday, but was postponed so that loved ones and friends could attend the funeral of Jackson Prep football player Walker Wilbanks who passed away Monday.

Tributes were going on Saturday not only for Wilbanks, who wore the number 65, but also for Copiah Colonel football player Adam Day, who passed this summer.

Both teams will play in honor of their teammates.

Jackson Prep players have the number 65 on one side of their helmet and Prep on the other.

Those in the crowd say they plan to have fun out here tonight but admit it will be a bittersweet night.

Jason Walton, Head of School at Jackson Prep said, "It's definitely bitter sweet. We definitely wanted our student Walker Wilbanks to be out here with us this evening, but he's not. We're just trying to reestablish routine and normalcy. I think it'll be good therapy tonight to have the boys out here and take a few snaps."

The captain of the cheerleading team told me they planned to release 65 balloons in honor of Walker at the game, but will have to do that at another game because of the rain.
