HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A series of buildings sit adjacent to Central Mississippi Medical Center, some of which house Hinds Community College's Allied Health/Nursing program, and Mississippi State University's Hinds County Extension Office. But both of those programs need more room.

At Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting, a plan was solidified to move the Extension Office out of those buildings and into the College's Eagle Ridge Conference Center in Raymond. The Allied Health Program will then expand into some of the empty buildings on the 11.5 acre site.

"It's going to create new opportunity, business development, and jobs in that area," says Hinds County District 4 Supervisor Tony Greer.

"We'll have additional parking area, and additional buildings that we can renovate and add to in this process," said HCC President Dr. Clyde Muse. "We've already got the plans developed. With this action today, we will immediately start efforts to renovate the Eagle Ridge Conference Center."

It's essentially a trade-off between the County and the College.

"Everybody's winning in this situation. It's a great economic development tool," added Greer.

Future plans call for a family lodge to be built on the green space across the street from the buildings. It will be a place to house families who are tending to a patient at CMMC's Burn Center.
