Obama vows to destroy IS terrorists, defend Baltics

WASHINGTON, DC (NBC) - President Barack Obama vowed on Wednesday to "degrade and destroy" the Islamic State (IS) militant group in the wake of their execution of a second American journalist, Steven Sotloff.

"Our objective is clear, and that is to degrade and destroy ISIL so it's no longer a threat not just to Iraq but also to the region and to the United States," Obama said.

Still, some critics pounced on another comment made by the president when he said that the U.S. will target ISIS' military capability "to the point where it is a manageable problem."
