EASTON, CA (KGPE/KSEE/CNN) - "Closed due to water problems" is what one saw as one drove down South Elm on Wednesday.

"It's really sad to see this town dying down," Kayla Trevino said. She grew up in easton and said businesses are closing one after another.

Restaurants were posting signs because there's not enough water. Wells are going dry.

Country Café and Extreme Pizza were closed. Trevino said Easton is feeling the pinch.

"The farms are the soul of this town, and they're having a really hard time," she said. "It's just killing everything."

Trevino said South Elm was the place to be: "Now there's nothing here."

Lisa Bischel works at Washington Union High School and says the water issue is affecting the entire town.

"We're having issues with homes not selling," she said. "Here we are trying to clean up the school to make it look good for the community, and we have nowhere to eat."

Bischel says right now the school has water but doesn't know if it will last.

Fresno County supervisors and the public health department didn't respond to calls for comments.
