FULTON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Fulton teenager charged in the death of a Mississippi, Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks officer in a traffic accident has been cleared by an Itawamba County grand jury, according to WTVA in Tupelo.

Sheriff Chris Dickinson tells WTVA.com the grand jury returned the finding after reviewing the evidence in the death of Master Sergeant John Collums.

Collums died in May after he was struck by a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Cody Weaver.

Collums was standing on John Rankin Highway while assisting deputies investigate a reported prowler when he was struck by a car driven by Weaver.

According to officials, Weaver was charged with negligent homicide, but a Mississippi Highway Patrol investigation in June said Collums' death was an accident.

WTVA says that the evidence was presented to a grand jury who agreed with the report and did not find reason to charge Weaver.
