LINCOLN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Deputies in Lincoln County said a breakthrough in one of the department's cold cases involves a man in a Texas jail.

Sheriff Steve Rushing said in a news release that recent information from his office and help from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation led to the indictment of 32-year-old Arron Lyons, formerly of Brookhaven.

The grand jury issued the indictment against Lyons for first degree murder, armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery in connection with the 2004 murder of Lincoln County resident John Deere.

Deputies said John Deere was robbed and murdered at the Airport Pic-A-Pak convenience store.

The Brookhaven Daily Leader reports Deere was shot three times outside of his store on Highway 51 in January 2004.

Investigators and MBI agents served Lyons with the indictment Wednesday at a jail in Harris County, Texas.

Sheriff Rushing said Lyons is being held there on unrelated charges and will be returned to Mississippi at a later date.
