Suspected burglar shot by resident

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Imagine walking out to your vehicle after hearing the sound of barking dogs to find someone attempting to steal your belongings.

Jackson resident Johndarius Curtis, 20, was facing this dilemma on Sunday after he walked up on a suspected burglar trying to steal a stereo from his vehicle.

The incident happened at 2883 Arbor Hill Drive.

Jackson Police said the 28-year-old male suspect attempted to strike Curtis with his own stereo, that's when Curtis shot the man once in the jaw with a .22 caliber revolver.

JPD Officer Colendula Green said the suspect was transported to UMMC with a non-life threatening injury.

Green said Curtis was questioned, but no charges have been filed.

Charges will be filed on the suspect for auto burglary upon his release from the hospital.
