PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

All 100 buildings on the Mississippi State Hospital campus were damaged by the hail storm in March 2013. A year and a half later, repairs haven't even begun on 50 of them.

Spokesperson Kathy Denson explains the holdup.

"Getting roofers was not easy at the beginning," said spokesperson Kathy Denson." Plus it's a state agency. We had to go through the bid process. Due to the extensive damage in the area, roofers were having difficulty getting materials."

Also, the hail storm caused damage to 700 employee and emergency vehicles. Time and resources were spent ensuring those employees could get back and forth to work.

The buildings that house patients were repaired first, and some of those required entire roofs. When those were complete, a new bidding process took place for repairs on 25 additional buildings, which are under repair right now.

Many of the structures that still have roof damage are houses for employees.

"I think the bids are complete, they just haven't started on them yet," Denson says.

We were not given a time from for when the work will be complete.
