JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Police are investigating a case of debit card fraud inside a Jackson hotel room. The victim said her personal information is being held hostage by someone who had access to her room.

The victim asked us not to identify her because she's concerned for her safety. She believes a hotel maid is responsible for stealing her identity.

"Obviously I felt violated," the 29-year-old woman said.

The frequent traveler still can't believe her debit card information was stolen from her hotel room.   She said it happened when her boyfriend accidentally took the Do Not Disturb sign off the door after leaving for the day. Her debit card information was sitting on the hotel room table.

"It was never my intent to leave it out and it was never, it was never even a thought that someone would do this," she said.

The victim believes someone with access to her room came in, wrote down the debit card information, and took three checks.

The victim believes her address and Social Security Number were also taken.

The culprit, she believes, is a maid who works at the hotel.

"That was kind of the toughest thing for me to get over," she said. "You saw me, you know what I look like, and you just decided to take advantage of me and bully me and there was nothing I could do about it."

The victim says she didn't want the hotel identified because of the ongoing investigation. That being said, JPD hasn't brought any charges against anyone in the case at this point.

The victim said she was told by a detective that they couldn't do that because the victim's bank is reimbursing her for the funds.

However, the victim adds that's a moot point when the identity thief still has her Social Security Number and other information.

"I just hope that it gets resolved. No one else is at this person's mercy like this," she said.
